In a star-studded ceremony hosted by EPT Presenter Kara Scott, the third annual PokerStars Scandinavian Poker Awards drew to a close last night at Luux Nightclub in Copenhagen with four stars of the Scandinavian poker world being garlanded.

The Scandinavian Poker Awards celebrates the very best poker players from Norway, Denmark, Finland and Sweden with thousands of poker fans from across the region voting online for their favourite players. From this shortlist - one player from each country in each category - the jury then picked the overall winners.

Peter Eastgate, the youngest-ever winner of the World Series of Poker main event, won two awards : Rookie of the Year and Best Performance of the Year. The PokerStars-sponsored 22-year-old, from Odense in Denmark is celebrating a remarkable 12 months - as well as winning over $9 million at the WSOP, Peter also took down the $5k event at this year's PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. He was presented his awards by Norwegian poker legend Thor Hansen and Norwegian poker phenom Annette Obrestad. For images and video of the event, click here

2008 was a great year for Scandinavian poker. There were cash finishes for more than 1,000 players from the region in the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker, and major cashes at European Poker Tour events for Sweden’s Michael Tureniec and Norway’s Johnny Lodden. Danish player Jesper Hougaard became the first ever player to win both a WSOP* and WSOPE* bracelet - not to mention Peter Eastgate's astonishing achievements - crowned Champion and winning over $9 million at the World Series of Poker* Main Event.
